About Cyber Essentials

What is Cyber Essentials accreditation?

The Cyber Essentials accreditation scheme aims to raise awareness of protection methods. It enables businesses to implement necessary measures in the workplace, and to demonstrate that they have taken the appropriate steps towards minimising risk. The Cyber Essentials (CE) badge can be used upon completion.

Launched in 2014 by the government’s National Cyber Security Centre, the Cyber Essentials scheme highlights the five basic cyber security controls that all businesses should be implementing in the office:

Advanced Functionality

Secure connections to
the internet

Risk Management

Risk Management

Controlled access to devices
and data

Protection from viruses and other malware

Management of software patches and updates

Why is Cyber Essentials accreditation Important?

Cyber Essentials benefits

Cyber Essentials accreditation is one of the most simple, straightforward, and cost-effective methods for meeting GDPR guidelines, keeping your valuable data safe and secure, and showing that you are dedicated to protecting the privacy of your clients, your employees, and your shareholders.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR, any business that collects, stores, manages, or shares personal information must be able to demonstrate that this data is not only used with permission, but also stored safely and securely.

Unfortunately, around half of UK businesses have not implemented all five of the basic cyber security controls, which means that they may not be compliant with legislation. Ensuring security on personal devices used in the workplace is one of the main areas that is overlooked.
