PGI has once again teamed up with Cyber Security Challenge to find, inspire and enable more EU citizens resident in the UK to become cyber security professionals.
This year’s challenge narrative is the following;
‘This morning, Protection Group International’s security team discovered a highly suspicious image file hidden on one of Managed VH Solutions’ servers during an IT security audit.
The investigation, which yielded the discovery was performed as part of a series of audits currently being conducted on UK Government contractors, in line with a renewed government focus on data security.
On initial examination, experts have revealed that the file appears to be encrypted and as such have not yet been able to recover the information in a usable format. A team of digital forensic specialists are currently working to decipher the file; the reasons for its presence on the server are currently unknown.
With this in mind, there is a real possibility that the file could pose a potential threat to the security of proprietary information of both the firm and in a wider sense, the UK government.
While our investigation team delves deeper into the image’s origins, the file has been hosted on our 24/7 on-demand investigations portal, where we are calling on our cyber-community to assist the decryption process.
To conduct this investigation, PGI have been tasked to lead the assembly of a cyber security task force, and are now looking for candidates to apply. PGI has created a recruitment tool in the form of an online competition, hosted on our Play-On-Demand platform which will test various cyber security proficiencies. Everyone is encouraged to enter, regardless of skill level or background, as the officials urge the force to be representative of the population.
This is going to be an investigation on a scale that has never been seen before to send a message that government is prepared to deal with threats of all sizes in a prompt and targeted manner.
To put yourself forward to quash this potential threat register or log-in here.’
As well as the challenge outlined above, PGI will be hosting a Cyber Security Challenge event at its Bristol based Cyber academy on 27th February.
